SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 18 , 2011 – Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BCSI), a leading provider of Web security and WAN optimization solutions, today announced that its Blue Coat® MACH5 next generation WAN Optimization appliance was named the Networking Product of the Year at the prestigious Techworld Awards. Winners were announced at the awards ceremony held on June 29th at Dartmouth House, London. The Techworld Awards recognize innovation within the industry and are firmly established as a major infrastructure and networking awards event.
Blue Coat provides a comprehensive approach to WAN optimization by addressing the full range of challenges and opportunities needed to enrich the effectiveness of employees in branch offices, accelerate business applications, improve collaboration and decision making, and further embrace the flexibility and cost effectiveness of using Internet-based IT infrastructure for networking, applications and services. The MACH5 WAN Optimization solution accelerates remote branch office access to files, email, storage and enterprise applications as well as Web, cloud and video applications.
The MACH5 solution includes the Blue Coat CloudCaching Engine that provides “one-sided” or asymmetric acceleration technology to accelerate and optimize cloud-delivered Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications without requiring a WAN optimization device in the cloud provider’s infrastructure. In a recent test of cloud-based applications, the Blue Coat MACH5 appliance yielded response times 93 times faster than a Riverbed Steelhead appliance when accessing documents in a Salesforce.com (SFDC) application.
The MACH5 solution also includes Optimized Video Delivery with a combination of stream-splitting and video caching technologies to scale the use of internal company video with little or no network impact, while preventing “video floods.” Video floods are caused when Internet video saturates a company’s WAN or Internet gateway and keeps other applications from performing properly.
“This is a strong accolade for Blue Coat and recognition that we take a much more complete approach to WAN optimization by solving a broader set of challenges facing IT,” said Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president, Blue Coat Systems. “Requirements for WAN optimization are continuously evolving, as businesses increasingly use video, Web- and cloud-based applications. This award is further validation that companies value a fuller solution for WAN optimization.”
Blue Coat won the Networking Product category against strong competition from other finalists including: Talari Networks, Aruba Networks, Silver Peak and ITrinegy.
Mike Simons, editor of Techworld commented: “These were hotly contested awards and we were extremely impressed with the overall quality of entries. Blue Coat came out on top because they showed real innovation to deliver a product that meets the needs of organizations faced with rapidly changing demands.”
