Blue Coat learned that as soon as news of our product group re-organization and consolidation spread outside the company, our competitors took the opportunity to start rumors, telling you, our valuable partners and customers, that PacketShaper was going away. We want to be clear: Blue Coat remains invested in the PacketShaper product line.
We have prepared the following top three messages so you can respond to customers’ questions or proactively assure them we are committed to PacketShaper today and tomorrow.

* Investment: Blue Coat is pleased to announce that veteran employee Jeff Whalen has moved into the role as the PacketShaper Product Manager.
* Innovation: PacketShaper 8.6 showed true innovation; PacketShaper 8.7 is on track for release at the end of August; and subsequent releases are being defined.
- PacketShaper 8.6 has shown that Blue Coat can innovate on the PacketShaper platform to solve customer issues around social networking and other web content. Also, the PS12000 has delivered the true 1 Gbps platform that was needed by the market.
- PacketShaper 8.7 will provide a 10,000 class option on the ISP build, 1 GigE Single Mode Fiber and 10 GigE fiber connectivity, more throughput, surge protection, and some usability enhancements
- The successor to 8.7 is currently being defined. We have already identified the most important feature in that release, which will be the ability to connect into Active Directory to provide user awareness (i.e. the ability to answer the question, “Who’s using that application?”), and then implement per user/per group policy (e.g., allow throttling of YouTube for everyone except Group Marketing).
